Volkswagen of America has joined forces with KONG and VCA Charities to introduce a special-edition VW KONG For a Cause dog toy, inspired by the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Available for a limited time, each toy purchased helps support local animal shelters—one toy will be donated for every one sold.
While KONG is a household name for dog lovers, its roots are surprisingly tied to Volkswagen. The iconic KONG toy was created in the 1970s by auto mechanic Joe Markham after he noticed his German Shepherd, Fritz, chewing on a rubber axle stop from a Volkswagen Type 2 Bus. Looking for a safer alternative for his pup, Joe used that part as the model for the very first KONG toy. Launched in celebration of National Puppy Day on March 23rd, this collaboration also honors the arrival of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The limited-edition toy features the ID. Buzz’s signature Cabana Blue color and is available at vw.com and drivergear.vw.com, while supplies last.
