What's New For the 2019 Volkswagen Passat?
The biggest changes for the 2019 Passat involve simplifications to the lineup. The line rolled out with only 2 trim levels, and there's now one engine available instead of two. In past models, the VR6 engine was available. This 3.6-liter V6 engine could hit 280 horsepower. The 2019 models no longer have this engine option. Instead of having the Passat S base, the trim has been replaced by the Wolfsburg Edition. The previous R-Line trim has also been replaced by the SE R-line trim.
Other changes involve upgrades to the vehicle. 17-inch wheels are now standard, as is a 6.3-inch touchscreen system. You also have standardized push button starting and keyless entry, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, and leatherette upholstery. In previous models, these luxurious upgrades hadn't been part of the base trim. The SE R-line trim has many interior and exterior similarities to the R-Line trim it's replacing. It's also received a few upgrades, though. The bumpers are more aggressively designed, and there are stunning 19-inch wheels. The trim also standardizes LED taillights and headlights instead of having them be an optional add-on.
Several safety features have been standardized across all Passat models instead of being optional. The SE R-Line has standardized some trim features that used to be found only on top trim models, combining top-tier trims into this more simple lineup.

Which Trims are Available on the 2019 Passat?
The Wolfsburg is the base trim that provides many luxurious features, while the SE R-Line builds on this with additional convenience that redefines family vehicles. The Wolfsburg has heated and power-operated side mirrors. It's also designed with an independent rear suspension and independent front struts. Headlights turn on automatically for extra convenience. 17-inch alloy wheels pack a punch.
The interior of the Wolfsburg is designed for convenience and comfort, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped gear shift, keyless access, push-button starting capabilities, and a color display. Both front seats are heated, with the driver's seat featuring 8-way power adjustment. In addition, all seat surfaces are made from V-Tex leatherette.

The Wolfsburg is compatible with Bluetooth technology and audio streaming. You get the Car-Net connection system along with 2 rear charging ports for a USB. 1 more USB data port is in front. A rear-view camera is standard. There's a 3-month trial of SiriusXM radio and a 6.3-inch infotainment system including an SD card reader.
The SE R-Line adds a rear sport valance, easy-open trunk, a power sunroof, and power steering. You also get rain-sensing wipers, LED taillights and headlights, and an upgrade to 19-inch alloy wheels. Dual-zone climate control is added, as is remote starting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient interior lighting.
2019 Volkswagen Passat Performance
All Passat come equipped with the same engine and 6-speed transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine can hit 174 horsepower and provide 184 lb-ft of torque. It offers premium acceleration and a smooth drive that suits your needs without being too overpowered.
What Safety Features are Available?
Each Volkswagen Passat boasts a great deal more standardized safety features. You have a rear traffic alert system that helps you back up safely, blind-spot monitor warnings, and automatic emergency braking if you're in danger of a collision.
The SE R-Line comes outfitted with even more safety features on top of this. You get lane-keeping assistance technology that ensures you don't drift, along with adaptive cruise control.
