Specs at a Glance

As three-row crossover SUVs that are imported from Germany, the 2022 Volkswagen SE and SEL offer lots of premium features for American families. Some standard technologies on these vehicles include the Car-Net application, Front Assist, and Blind Spot Monitor.

Performance

Built on Volkswagen's EA888 platform, a 2.0-liter engine block propels the 2022 Atlas SE. This turbocharged powerhouse generates up to 235 horsepower by burning premium unleaded gasoline. When spinning faster than 1,600 RPM, the turbo powerplant unleashes 258 pound-feet of peak torque. This compact powertrain takes advantage of the Variable Cam Phasing technology for precise timing during each stroke. Made of cast iron, the engine block weighs 72 pounds less than the previous edition. This turbo engine works in sync with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which has the proprietary Tiptronic technology. A front-wheel drive is standard on the SE model, and the SEL edition runs on the patented 4Motion All-Wheel Drive with the Active Control for enhanced traction. Both Volkswagen crossover SUVs can tow up to 2,000 net pounds when equipped with the proper hardware.

Appearance

The 2022 Atlas SE rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels, which look good with black roof rails and LED headlights. The SEL model is equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels that provide more stability and distinct styling. Silver roof rails also distinguish this edition from the entry-level model. You'll get the LED Performance headlights and heated side mirrors on the SEL. Additionally, interior ambient lighting customizes the environment inside the cabin of this Volkswagen crossover SUV. Some exterior color options for the Atlas SE include Platinum Gray, Pyrite Silver, and Tourmaline Blue. You could choose the Deep Black Pearl or Pure White top coats for custom styling.

Features

Measuring 6.5 inches wide, the Volkswagen MIB touch screen is standard inside the 2022 Atlas SE. This entry-level trim includes the VW Digital Cockpit in the instrument cluster. You'll get an 8.0-inch MIB touch screen and the VW Digital Cockpit Pro in the SEL model. Some other upgrades to this trim include the High Beam Control, Remote Start, and wireless smartphone charger. The SEL has the Dynamic Road Sign Display, Adaptive Cruise Control, and a handful of other advanced safety technologies. Both VW crossover SUVs are furnished with a 10-way driver's seat. A memory system is an improvement to the driver's seat in the SEL, which has a tri-zone HVAC system with the Climatronic design.
