What's New for the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan?

You won't find any drastic changes in the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, but that's no problem, as this solid SUV is already a crowd favorite. However, the Tiguan does get several notable interior and exterior upgrades that induce envy among its competitors. On the outside, the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan gets a minor exterior revision featuring a sculpted, softly rounded hood, improved lights with more visibility, and an overall athletic but still stylish appearance.

Some trim levels also get unique styling cues. More interior features are standard this year, including an alarm system that was previously only standard on higher-level trims. Two trim levels join the Tiguan family this year, bringing the total of trims up to six. Front-wheel drive is standard in the first four Tiguan trims, while all-wheel drive is standard on the two highest.

Which Trims are Available for the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan?

The base model of the Tiguan is named the S. This trim level offers entertainment and information through a 6.5-inch touchscreen that connects to the audio system. The system also ensures that you stay as connected as you need to be on the road by seamlessly pairing your smartphone with the infotainment center. LED tail lights make it easier for other drivers to see you. Moving up to the SE, you'll get these features plus a larger eight-inch touchscreen. Leatherette seating surfaces are also standard in this trim. There are also more standard safety features on this trim, including blind-spot monitoring.

A panoramic sunroof is available in the SE. The SEL, which is the next trim level up, includes navigation in the eight-inch infotainment display screen. Starting with this trim, you also get a fully digital cockpit that provides current information about the Tiguan performance. The digital cockpit has an easily viewable navigation screen and gives you the option to create a customized driver setting. In addition to the standard safety features found in the SE, the SEL adds adaptive cruise control, which is radar-operated cruise control that adjusts to the speed of the car in front of you. The SEL R-Line comes with distinctive badges and a custom bumper. Navigation is also included in this trim's infotainment system. The SEL Premium builds on the other trims' amenities with a premium Fender audio system and LED headlights. It also has optional third-row seating.

The first four trim levels come with front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive, while the top two trim levels have standard all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available in the lower level models. Both types of drivetrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and auto-manual capability so that you can have a sportier driving experience when you choose. The Tiguan has an independent front suspension with an anti-roll bar for added stability.

Other notable safety features include lane-keep assist, parking distance control, and front assist, which monitors the distance to the car in front of you and adjusts your speed if necessary to keep a safe following distance.
