After eight years as the Volkswagen midsized flagship, the 2020 Passat has received a facelift. Always considered a reliable and elegant model in the four-door passenger car market, the Passat has been given a sportier look.

What's New for the 2020 Volkswagen Passat?

Volkswagen has made sure the new Passat is a car to turn heads. Though the basic frame has been kept, the front grill and Volkswagen emblem is now larger and more prominent. The new LED wrap around headlamps has been made slimmer and sleek looking without diminishing illumination. The 19-inch alloy wheel covers can be described as footed spokes, with short offshoots from each spoke to the rim. They are in two words: aesthetically striking, both while parked or in motion.

On the interior, the 2020 Passat receives an upgraded infotainment system with a three-month subscription to Sirius XM satellite radio standard. The new infotainment system has a larger touch screen and comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the rear, passenger legroom has been increased. The Passat now has three feet of rear legroom.

Which Features are Available for 2020?

For 2020, the Passat offers four separate interior trim colors for a wider choice than in the past. Seating and trim can come in either leather or Volkswagen's high tech leatherette material. For rear-seat passengers, the Passat provides dual air vents for its climate control system. To keep each passenger online and occupied, Volkswagen provides two USB ports for charging electronic devices.

The Volkswagen Car-Net Guide and Inform service provide a wealth of information for travelers. Besides GPS service, it can provide traffic information, available parking spaces at your destination, nearby fuel stations, news, weather, and even a vehicle health report. You can even input points of interest for your destination.

For additional driver convenience, the infotainment touch screen has been increased to 6.3 inches and has smartphone integration. The instrument cluster is boldly colored but easy on the eyes. Another easy friendly feature is the auto-dimming rearview mirror. The mirror will mute the bright headlights lights of an oncoming vehicle from the rear. In case you have forgotten to close the sunroof, the Volkswagen app can send a notification to your phone if rain begins to fall.

How does the Passat Engine Balance Power Needs and Fuel Economy?

2020 Volkswagen PassatVolkswagen is continuing with its 2.0 turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. Turbocharging is standard on all Passat trim levels and for good reason. The 2.0 is both powerful and economical. With the turbocharger, the Passat provides up to 174 horsepower and over 200 ft. lbs of torque.

With a smooth six-speed automatic transmission, the Passat gets up to speed quickly and smoothly. For those who desire more control, paddle shifters are available. To add more fun to the driving experience, Volkswagen has added a sport mode for handling. Despite all of this power, the Passat uses gas like an economy car. City mileage of up to 25 mpg and highway mileage of over 35 mpg are obtainable.

Affordable and Packed with Safety Features Galore

2020 Volkswagen PassatThis year's Passat includes the Volkswagen safety cage to absorb impact in the event of a crash and the innovative ICRS system. This system can automatically unlock doors, turn off the fuel pump and activate emergency hazard lights.

For collision avoidance, Volkswagen provides a number of the latest safety features. These include front end collision warnings, emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. This system will automatically pace the vehicle to the front and change speed to avoid coming too close.
