
Austria’s Wörthersee Festival is a one of Volkswagen’s favorite places to show off their new high-performance gears. This year, the automaker debuted the new Golf GTE Sport concept that has VW lovers salivating over its powerful, yet eco-friendly engine.
The Golf GTE Sport is powered by a plug-in hybrid powerplant that uses a combination of a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine and axle-mounted electric motors. Its power output in around 396 horsepower that can produce nearly zero emissions when driven in full “GTE” mode.
According to a Volkswagen press release, “Ringing in a new era: with the Golf GTE Sport…is catapulting the GT tradition into the future. The high-tech Golf that is largely made of carbon is powered by a total of three motors. The concept car breaks down traditional barriers between road and motorsport vehicles. Its progressive hybrid system in combination with the high-tech all-wheel drive, a lightweight body, optimum aerodynamic downforce, precision running gear based on the design of the current Golf GTE.”
This incredible new design is a great accent to the concept’s powerful engine. Inside, the GTE Sport boasts high-tech materials that match its high-tech driving feel. Sporting a three-tier instrument display, a futuristic seat divider, five-point seatbelts and a racing-inspired steering-wheel.
